"Preparing for the Unexpected in Health Care" is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday and April 23 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 21599 Parke Lane, Grosse Ile.

On Wednesday, the topics will be "Prevention of Kidney Disease" and "Hospitalization: What Should I Expect?"

Kari West of The Information Center will discuss "Where Do You Turn When You Need Help?" on April 23.

Melanie McCoy, general manager for Wyandotte Municipal Services, will lead a presentation titled "Bringing Solar Energy to Light in Wyandotte" at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Copeland Center, 2306 Fourth St., Wyandotte.

Participants will learn about solar energy and pick up tips about public speaking at the free event, which is sponsored by the Downriver Ambassadors Toastmasters Club and the Wyandotte Jaycees.

Trenton's "On Stage" speaker series at the Trenton Village Theatre, 2447 W. Jefferson, features entertaining and informative speakers of interest.

The series wraps up Tuesday with Ray Hunter Jr., who will share "What's New This Year" in the gardening world just in time for spring planting.

Tickets are $5 per presentation in advance and can be purchased at the Trenton Parks and Recreation Department at the Kennedy Recreation Center. Tickets are $6 at the door.

After the presentations, ticket stubs are good for 10 percent to 20 percent off lunch at several of Trenton's participating restaurants.

The Irish Genealogical Society of Michigan will hold a program titled "Irish in Detroit Labor Movement" at 1:30 p.m. April 19 at the Gaelic League/Irish American Club, 2068 Michigan Ave., Detroit.

The speaker will be Michael Kerwin, a retired international representative of the United Auto Workers union, who produced the book "Modern Journeys: The Irish in Detroit" and co-authored the book "A Glimpse of Irish Detroit."
