MUSIC TO YOUR EARS



Downriver Flashback promises a groovy time from 11 a.m. to dusk today in downtown Wyandotte.

The funky festival will feature arts and crafts, food and many musical guests.

Frijid Pink headlines the event with "Rev." Marc Falconberry and his Blues Band, The Cetan Clawson Revolution, MC Stanley T. Madhatter and other surprise guests.

Barbershop quartet My Three Friends will be in the spotlight at 7 p.m. Sunday as part of the "Concerts on the Commons" at the Macomb Street Commons, Macomb at Meridian, Grosse Ile.

A feature called "Spotlight on Youth" invites young musicians to perform for five minutes at each show.

The free concerts are held Sundays throughout the summer. Bring your own lawn chair.

Willow Metropark's Summer Music Series continues with "Polka Fest" featuring Big Daddy Lackowski and Duane Malinowski from 6 to 10 p.m. tomorrow.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will perform, and from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 2, Kaleidoscope will play its renditions of Top 40 hits.

The City of Lincoln Park's annual summer concert series is in full swing with free weekly concerts from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at the band shell in Memorial Park.

The 1950s and '60s music of The Bel-Airs is on tap Thursday, followed by polka and standards from Zak Music on July 31; and The Diplomats with swing and 1960s music on Aug. 7.

In celebration of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks' 20th anniversary, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday at Willow Metropark in Huron Township as part of the "Target Harmony in the Metroparks" series.

DSO resident conductor Thomas Wilkins will lead the orchestra in a variety of light classical and pops music centered on a dance theme.

Concertgoers should bring their own blankets or chairs. Picnic baskets are allowed, but glass containers aren't. Food will be available at concession areas.

The family friendly concerts are free, but require a $4 vehicle entry permit to the park.

The 13th annual Jazz on the River bops its way into Elizabeth Park in Trenton from noon to 10 p.m. Aug. 2 and 3.

This year's lineup features Spyro Gyra, Ronnie Laws, The Deep Blue Organ Trio, Luis Resto, Malik Alston and the Linwood Ensemble, Terrance Palmer and Gene Dunlap among others.

A free jazz education tent will give aspiring musicians the chance to meet the artists and learn the history and rhythms of jazz.
