GALLERY HOPPING

Felt, Paper, Cloth and Canvas: Works by Anne Flora, Marion Melody, Marilyn Prucka and Kay Lister opens with a "Meet the Artists" reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Downriver Council for the Arts, 20904 North Line Road, Taylor.

Each of the four artists manipulates natural fibers to create unique artwork that demonstrates contrasting texture, color and form.

Flora incorporates dyed silk gauze, yarns and ribbon into merino wool felted pieces in her wearable art, floor and wall pieces.

Melody uses Belgian flax processed in a Hollander beater to create crisp, thin papers influenced by the Asian concept of simplicity and color.

Inspired by rivers and landscapes, Prucka combines a variety of design techniques to create fabrics for quilts.

Lister transforms text and nature imagery into thoughtful and colorful floor cloth patterns.

Melody will teach Wired & Bound Wire Edged Binding Book on Oct. 11. Participants will make a small book using a wire edged binding method developed by book artist Daniel Kelm.

All workshops run from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., and cost $45 for DCA members and $50 for non-members.
